Nesting behaviour

Nesting behaviour

The wild variant of the domestic fowl, the Jungle fowl, lays six to twelve eggs up to four times a year. A search aside the group for a proper nest precedes each egg deposition. Sheltered locations are favoured. The hen scratches a scrape and possibly lines it with nesting material such as haulms and leaves, as soon as an adequate location is found. Afterwards the hen lays its egg. Mostly several hens establish a joint clutch.
