General needs
The husbandry environment should be designed in a way that allows the chicken to perform following species-specific behaviors:
- to stand in an upright position, to stride, to run, to flutter and to fly
- to jump, to flap their wings and to stretch wings and legs
- to scratch in litter and forage for food
- to feed
- to drink from troughs
- to dustbathe in suitable material
- to retreat to a nest for egg depostion in a quiet location
- to stand and sit on an elevated perch, to rest their during day and nighttime
- beeing able to groom the plumage
