Problems during artificial breeding

The chicks peck almost everything in their environment, even fellow chicks, because this is a natural behaviour. Feather pecking though can be unterstood as a behavioural disorder out of the foraging and feeding behaviour pattern. Pecking is promoted if no dust bathing facility is offered and the chicks bathe in feed. Subsequent food particles are pecked out of the down.
