Clucking hen - chick - behaviour

Chicks have congenital/innate behaviour patterns such as walking motion and pecking movements, following-reaction towards the mother and pecking against shiny surfaces to locate waterdrops. During the first days of life, the chicks learn how to find food. Therefore they peck at everything that seems interesting as a forage object. The clucking hen supports the chicks by purposfully luring them to feed particles . Active periods of food foraging are replaced by resting periods when he mother hen warms the chicks.
