Examples of legal minimum requirements
Germany – key points:
- 1 breeding doe up to 5.5 kg with young animals until weaning: 6000 cm2 floor space + 1800 cm2 raised floor space = 7800 cm2
- Minimum floor space of an enclosure for fattening rabbits 8000 cm2; space per animal: in groups of up to 4 animals 1500 cm2, in groups of 5-10 animals 1000 cm2, in groups of 11-24 animals 850 cm2, from 25 animals on 750 cm2 /animal
- Enclosure height: for breeding does at least 80 cm and for fattening rabbits at least 60 cm across 70% of the floor area
- Darkened area as retreat possibility
- Permanent access to roughage and gnawing objects
- Floors: max. gap or hole size of 14 mm in breeding does, and of 11 mm in fattening rabbits; a maximum of 15% of the raised areas (platforms) may be perforated
- Light: at least 40 lux for 8 hours
