Management of fattening rabbit groups

Group size

Regarding biting injuries, group sizes up to 30 animals seem suitable. Under certain circumstances (e.g., female-only groups, optimal structuring), fattening rabbits can also be kept in larger groups.

Time of slaughter

Rabbits usually reach sexual maturity before they are ready for slaughter. Sexual maturation is accompanied by an increasing amount of sexual behaviour, which often triggers aggressive behaviour. This is why it is important to observe especially older male fattening rabbits and to slaughter them earlier in case of an increased incidence of injuries.
