Origin and behaviour

Of all domesticated livestock animals, goats and sheep are among the first  domesticated species. Despite their domestication over more than 8,000 years ago, goats have retained most of their original behaviours.
Wild goats live in herds of a fixed size with 5 to 20 animals. The males (bucks) are solitary or live in small groups; they join herds of females only during mating season.
