Rearing of young rabbits

The kits usually stay with their mother for 4 to 5 weeks. They can be weaned by taking them away from the doe and placing them into fattening pens. Today, systems, where the doe is removed from the enclosure, while the young animals remain in the system for fattening, become more and more common. This has the advantage that the young animals are not exposed to transport stress and a change of environment. However, it can result in lack of space with increasing age and weight of the animals.
