Social behaviour

Cattle are gregarious animls and live in herds of 20 to 50 animals of different ages. The herd is mainly led by an experienced, older leading cow. The bull takes over defence tasks.

Younger calves live in the calves-"Kindergarden", adolescent  male animals do live on the borders of the herd or in bachelor groups.
The relationships between the animals are enhanced through mutual licking, rubbing, touching and sniffing.
