Elimination behaviour

Rabbits excrete two types of faeces, the normal firm and round faecal pellets, and the softer caecotrophs (caecals). Rabbits usually eat their caecotrophs straight from the anus as they produce them.
 
 
Caecotrophs contain essential nutrients that are formed in the caecum by microbes. These nutrients are absorbed on the second pass through the digestive tract.
