Locomotion behaviour including play behaviour

Rabbits are generally very active animals and have a strong drive for locomotion. This is particularly noticeable in young animals, which show intense locomotor play.

The most common form of locomotion is hopping. Other locomotion behaviours range from slow sliding-like movements (slow single hops), e.g., during grazing, up to running during flight. In the context of locomotor play, also jumping, zig-zag movements, and leaping into the air occur, accompanied by a shake or a twist of the body, often also by kicking with the hind legs, and flicking of the head.
