Requirements regarding housing elements

Raised platforms

Raised platforms offer many advantages for rabbits. They help to structure the housing system in various ways. They offer additional opportunities for locomotion and increase the space allowance. The space below the raised platforms serves as retreat area. Rabbits also like to rest on elevated areas. In addition, they allow the animals to choose between zones with different temperatures and light intensity.

In fattening rabbits, raised platforms should be attached at a height of at least 20-27 cm from the floor of the pen, in adult animals at a height of at least 25-30 cm, always taking the actual size of the animals into account. The size of the raised platforms should allow animals to lie on them fully stretched out. Platforms must be easily accessible, without sharp edges, non-slippery, and easy to clean.
