Also the term ‘park systems’ can be found in the context of pen housing. In contrast to cages, it is easier to structure pens due to the overall larger space allowance. Like this, feeding areas (with feed, hay, and drinkers), areas for locomotion and for exploration (litter) as well as retreat and resting areas can be created. It is vital though, that the structuring allows the animals to avoid each other (beware of dead ends, bottle necks!). Retreat areas may be narrow and should be darker than the rest of the enclosure. Pen housing is possible without or with (partial) bedding.
